Fanart for The Blinding Knife by Brent Weeks. Of course he introduced canonical tarot cards so I had to get my Art Nouveau on.

I…really like those books. Hopefully I make to his signing.

Deer Lord. This is the coolest thing.

Perfect Night Was Perfect.

Need to print this out and give it to Brent Weeks tomorrow. sdkfjsf.

Not super happy with it, but no time to fret over it.

Definitely hugely inspired by Tishia’s work, though not nearly as amazing. Along with fanart (that I’ll post in a minute), I wanted to make a pendant for Brent Weeks. Still need to cook it, and then chop off the end of the metal.

But for now, sleep. Because I have to cook it and do everything in the morningbecausegoingtoseehimtomrrow. Along with printing the fanart and doing homework. Whoops.

dsfsldf. I completely forgot I had to finish this by the signing on Thursday, so I’ve been working on it all day between pain. Will reposition them when I’m done with lineart.

Slowly working on this to give to Brent Weeks as a print. Also want to make a sword charm for him and a necklace for his wife. Yeah I’m probably not going to finish. Whoops.

Is there anyone who is a fan of Brent Weeks and lives near San Francisco?

He’s doing a signing on the 13th of September. I’m forgoing the Elementary dinner to go to his signing, but we’re also heading to BART around 3/3:30 to hang out in San Francisco until the signing at 7PM.

If anyone is interested in hanging with us, please let me know! I’m going to make NightAngel buttons for him so I’ll give you free buttons yay buttons.

Not so secretly some of my most prized possessions.

$45 for the first book, but totally worth it. It was a limited print run (as you see, mine is number 128—and I’m just learning that today because I haven’t taken it out of its cover until now), and personally signed. For me, the beautiful cover and the fact that I freaking love Durzo (and Mr. Weeks’ work) made it totally worth it. There’s nothing quite like a backstory on your favorite character! Even if I also purchased the eBook and read that one instead of this one. It’s sentimentality.

Then, of course, the first book I randomly picked up in the store and fell IN LOVE with. I could have purchased a new, pristine book for him to sign (and I think I have two anyway now because I like to lend books out and no one gets to touch this one anymore), but this one had like 50 post-it notes and was written in and worn and it only felt right to ask him to sign it 4 years ago.

Also, you can see the little bookmark I gave him (along with another page of art that I drew on the way there. I have a bookmark because the one you see printed out too dark). Then you can compare what I’m working on now. I also plan to try and make a charm of the infamous sword/Ka’kari from the book.

Because my idols are authors and artists ngl. I love Movie/TV celebrities, but for me authors and writers are the celebrities I would do anything for because books and art just slkfjskldfj. I really can’t explain how much I love making things/supporting artists and writers. They do so much for me in sharing their work, and so I love giving back (like most fans).

So yes. This has been a personal post/Raemble. Sorry!

Casually screams because I was going through the Brent Weeks tag to snag quotes because I’m in the mood and drawing fanart to give to him in person on the 13th. It’s been 4 years since the last time. (Where I showed up, having never met him before nor having him on Facebook at the time, and he looks up at me and is all “You must be Raelynn”. To this day, I have no idea how he knew. And I don’t want to.)

This is what I gave him (I swear I’m not a creepy fan—it’s a scene from his books!).

Deer lord, how people change in 4 years. I’m literally blushing to see this in the tag.

OK!

Street rat! Scoundrel! Take that!

Kylar: Just a little snack, guys!

LOOKING INTO THIS.

Check out Way of Shadows with/for me and support the author, guys? If Rae recommends it I’m sure it’s good.

WELL! I met the author at a book singing; HE’S TOTALLY COOL and his wife is a funny lady! My friend and I were waiting in line and this woman comes up to us and starts some polite small talk.  We think that she’s also in line, too, so we were going to let her cut ahead because she’s one person and my friend was planning to show him some fanart she drew, and then the lady laughs, “oh no, I’m his wife!” and we are like as;dkjfas;ldjfa;sldfk your husband is so cool we love his book also you are cool too

Also The Night Angel Trilogy is really good if you are into those dark fantasy thief/assassin books.  I read the first two, but I actually have all three (SIGNED BY BRENT WEEKS /preens) and it’s well-written with good dynamic characters and their relationships are A++ but also a little heartbreaking. My favorite character is THE MASTER OF PLEASURES and he runs not just a brothel, but all the brothels, and he is very loyal and sad and clever and just wants to protect his employees and friends and keep the balance in their fucked up city. ANYWAY.

Your protangonist is named Kylar and basically he becomes an ASSASSIN and trains under this other mysterious assassin and also he has these weird magical powers????? the real kicker is that assassins, in this series, are called wetboys or wetgirls and that never fails to make me giggle.

So, if nothing else— read it for the wetboys.

His other series, the one that still only has one book in it, is amazing as well. It’s part of the Lightbringer trilogy and it’s FUCKING AMAZING. PEOPLE CAN USE COLOR AND MANIPULATE IT AND MAKE IT SOLID OR WHATEVER DEPENDING ON WHAT COLOR IT IS AND WHAT THEY CAN CONTROL AND IT’S FUCKING BEAUTIFUL AND IT FEATURES BETRAYAL AND PEOPLE BEING LOCKED UP AND MINDFUCKS BECAUSE MINDFUCKS.

YES. Buy his other series, too. I’m good with that!

If it says anything, I spent $44 (plus shipping) just to get the physical version of his novella that came out (but my book won’t come out until December) because it’s about Durzo and it’s fantastic and let’s just say Brent Weeks is amazing and call it good. <3
